I live on Lake Harding, and I’m trying to find the right person or student for a paid part-time gardening / landscape care role at our property.
I’m specifically looking for someone more plant- and conservation-minded than a typical mowing crew or landscaper. The property is about 1.7 acres, with a relatively small lawn area, and because we’re directly on the lake, I’m trying to be very careful about runoff and avoid harsh herbicides or broad chemical treatments. We have a complex landscape with a variety of plants (in the hundreds). The total yard area to do most of the upkeep (excluding the woods) is probably .75 acres or less.
The recurring work would include mowing with light equipment, trimming, hand-pulling or carefully treating weeds with lake-safe methods, keeping invasive vines out of trees, maintaining shrubs, helping train creeping fig up retaining walls, and occasionally helping with new plantings or replacing struggling plants.
This would be paid hourly or structured as a recurring part-time arrangement with a pay range of $25-40 an hour depending on whether you have your own equipment and experience. I’m trying to find someone reliable who has an interest in gardening, horticulture, native plants, conservation, or sustainable landscape care. Our land is a peninsula, surrounded by water, home to bald eagles. osprey, various hawks, songbirds, beavers (occasionally), and I'm hopeful to find someone who would enjoy being out here in nature and doing the work.
