The end of this month is the perfect time to get sunflower seeds in the ground, giving your plants plenty of time to develop strong root structures before the summer heat. Auburn is a great place to grow sunflowers!
The Sunflower Seed Initiative has an amazing array of 66 varieties across these major categories: Dwarf Sunflowers (20 varieties); 4- to 5-Foot-Tall Sunflowers (15 choices); 5- to 6-Foot-Tall Sunflowers (22 options) and 6 Foot Tall and Taller (9 to choose from). There is a special subsection of 8 varieties that produce seeds for human consumption.
Many of the dwarf varieties can be grown in pots and containers on a porch, patio or balcony. No garden space required! On the other end of the spectrum are giants like 'Kong Hybrid' and 'Mongolian Giant' which routinely reach heights of 12 feet or more. There is truly something here for everyone.
The pictures listed in order are:

Did you know that Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine? The Sunflower Seed Initiative exists to provide information about and generate funding for urgent orphan care in war-torn Ukraine. All net proceeds from seed sales are donated to Lifesong For Orphans in Gridley Illinois for the construction of a Trauma Care Center in western Ukraine for the country's most traumatized orphans.
We hope, in exchange for your $20 in free seeds, you will consider donating some of your savings (any amount) to the Lifesong For Orphans Children's Trauma Care Center in Ukraine. Go to: www.sunflowerseedinitiative.com/donate
We are sure that you will find many varieties that spark you interest. You can start these in your gardens real soon. There is information on the website about growing sunflowers and also harvesting edible seeds. What are you waiting for?
Send us a response with any questions.
