The Golden Welsh Harlequin is a light-weight duck breed known for its vivid plumage and egg laying ability. Welsh Harlequins weigh 4.5 to 5.5 pounds. Females have a black bill and brown legs and feet, and their plumage is similar to a mallard but heavily frosted with white. Drakes are also similar to a heavily frosted Mallard with a yellow/green bill and orange legs and feet. The color variation known as "golden" replaces the black feather pigments with a light golden-brown color. They are excellent egg producers, due to their Khaki Campbell background, and have the instinct to sit and hatch a nest full of ducklings. They can also make an outstanding dressed bird for meat production. On average, Welsh Harlequin hens can lay 300 eggs per year, and do so without any substantial interruption over the cold weather months. Ducks live about 10 years.
